$1,000 Bad Beat Bonus Hits Three Times in 2008 at the Carson Valley Inn
Playing
a game of Texas Hold'em in December in the Carson Valley Inn Poker Room,
a local Gardnerville resident (name withheld at request) had four cards
towards a five-high straight flush. He had the ace of diamonds in his
hand and after the flop he also had the three and five of diamonds. When
he saw the deuce of diamonds on the "turn" and the four of diamonds
on the "river," he was sure he had a big winning hand. The only
problem? John Garrett (Gardnerville, NV) had the six of diamonds and,
thus, the straight flush that won the hand!
In May of 2008, The Bad Beat Promotion paid out $1,000 twice within a week. Jim Hammer (Minden, NV) held two pocket aces to go with two aces on the board. He thought for sure he had a winner. He didn't realize Randy Meyer from Gardnerville held a queen of hearts to go with the 10, jack, ace and king of hearts which were also on the board after the turn and the river. Randy had his first "Royal Flush" ever and Jim's first thought was he had lost with four aces!
A few days later, Anthony Gassaway (Gardnerville, NV) wasn't worried when Jim Hineman (Gardnerville) seemed very confident in his hand. Anthony held a jack-high straight flush and, because he had won the CVI Bad Beat prize a couple of years ago, he knew that if this hand was beaten he'd be a winner anyway. Sure enough, Jim held a queen-high straight flush to win the pot.
In all of the above situations, $500 went to the holder of the beaten
"four-of-a-kind" or better hand, $300 plus the pot went to the
hand winner and the remaining $200 was split to the remaining players
at the table.
