It all started in early 1983 when owners Patrick and Jeane Mulreany wanted to invest in the local community. On their trips from Smith Valley to Carson City and Reno, they found few places to stay overnight or to eat late at night. Patrick was intrigued by the number of out-of-state license plates that passed by on U.S. Highway 395, Jeane wanted to put her training as a Registered Dietician to use, so they considered opening a restaurant.
The Mulreanys mentioned their ideas to local developer Bill Tomerlin who showed them his concept for a small coffee shop with a few slots and hotel rooms to be called the "Carson Valley Inn". The couple liked what they saw and, based on Patrick's car-count "marketing plan," the project soon grew into a 100-room hotel, casino, restaurant, convention center and wedding chapel. The Mulreanys envisioned their new project becoming a central meeting place for the Carson Valley's residents and visitors.
The Carson Valley Inn opened in August of 1984 and was designed
as a first-class resort facility to serve the Carson Valley residents
and guests to our area. Thanks to a loyal local following and repeat business
from out-of-area visitors, the Inn has grown considerably since we opened
in 1984 with 100 rooms, 150 slots, six table games, and 150 employees.
Early improvements included a 25% increase to the original casino in 1985 by moving the Hotel Desk downstairs and relocating the Game Arcade. Construction of the original Michael's Pub (same area remodeled to a new Fiona's Bar and Grill in 2007) occurred in 1986.
Eighty seats were added in a 1987 expansion to Katie's Country Kitchen. 1988 brought the opening of our second restaurant, Fiona's Bar and Grill (formerly the "Atrium" Restaurant), the addition of a $25,000 keno game, and the opening of the 59-site Carson Valley RV Resort.
A 1989 expansion to the Inn included a 60-room hotel wing, a 2000 sq. ft. casino expansion, 1,500 sq. ft. of new convention and meeting space, a new supervised kid's fun center, and more parking.
1991 brought a major remodeling and expansion of our banquet kitchen and the addition of a new bakery. The Sports Book, more parking, and the Carson Valley Market (now featuring Shell products and a convenience store) were added in 1992.
A major expansion project in 1993 brought us the Sports Bar (subsequently demolished in the casino expansion of 2001) , P.J.'s Pub, a Gift Shop, valet parking, the new 75-room Carson Valley Motor Lodge, our third restaurant, Michael's at the Inn (closed at the end of 2006 to make way for the new Fiona's Bar & Grill) and an increase in our keno game to an aggregate limit of $50,000. The summer of 2001 brought a 50% casino expansion, new Cabaret Lounge, new Sports Book, new Gift Shop, restrooms on the casino floor, a new Pool/Spa/Fitness Facility, and more. A Poker Room opened in December of 2004.
Early 2007 brought the beginning of a major restaurant enhancement. Michael's at the Inn and PJ's pub were closed and this space was remodeled to to become the all-new Fiona's Bar and Grill.
The Inn now features over 600 slots, 11 table games, a Keno game, a Sports Book, a poker room, three dining facilities, two lounges, 230 rooms (including nine spacious suites), nightly entertainment in the cabaret lounge, 6000+ sq. ft. of convention and banquet space, a 59-site RV resort, a wedding chapel, a gift shop, a convenience market, lighted and paved parking for over 600 vehicles, and over 500 employees.
Since our opening in 1984, we have remained committed to providing the friendliness of service and quality of property guaranteed to make your visit fun, safe, and entertaining.
